Story & Symbolism:
The Shroud of Turin is a revered linen cloth believed by many Catholics to be the burial shroud of Jesus Christ. It bears the faint image of a man who appears to have suffered wounds consistent with crucifixion as described in the Gospels.
The image is significant because it reflects the Passion—showing marks that correspond to the scourging, crowning with thorns, and crucifixion. While the Church has not made a definitive statement on its authenticity, it allows devotion to the Shroud as a powerful aid to meditation on Christ’s suffering and resurrection.
The Shroud is currently kept in the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Turin, Italy, and continues to be a subject of scientific study, spiritual reflection, and pilgrimage.
