Philodendron ‘Ring of Fire’ is one of the most spectacular and sought-after philodendron cultivars, prized for its bold, serrated foliage and striking variegation. A hybrid believed to have originated from a cross involving Philodendron wendlandii and Philodendron tortum, this plant belongs to the Araceae family and has become a true collector’s favourite.

Its leaves are long, narrow, and deeply serrated along the edges, giving them a jagged, almost flame-like appearance. Each leaf can display an extraordinary mix of colours – from deep green and lime to orange, red, cream, and yellow – with the variegation forming streaks, patches, and marbling. No two leaves are alike, making the plant’s overall appearance dynamic and ever-changing.

A relatively slow grower, Philodendron ‘Ring of Fire’ can eventually reach over 1.2–1.5 metres tall as a self-heading plant (not a climber). Its upright, architectural form and fiery leaf palette make it an unforgettable statement piece in any indoor collection.

Philodendron ‘Ring of Fire’ – Care Guide

Light

Requires bright, indirect light to maintain strong variegation. Tolerates medium light, but colours will be less intense and new growth may revert to greener tones. Avoid harsh direct sun, which can scorch the delicate variegated areas.

Watering

Water when the top 3–4 cm of soil feels dry. Keep soil lightly moist during spring and summer but avoid waterlogging, which can cause root rot. Reduce watering in winter when growth slows.

Temperature and Humidity

  • Temperature: Thrives in 18–28°C. Protect from draughts and avoid prolonged exposure below 15°C.

  • Humidity: High humidity (60–80%) is preferred. Mist regularly, group with other plants, or use a humidifier to prevent brown leaf tips and encourage lush growth.

Soil and Potting

Use a chunky, free-draining aroid mix – peat-free compost blended with orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir. Repot every 1–2 years in spring to refresh the soil and support healthy root development.

Feeding

Feed every 2–3 weeks in spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertiliser, diluted to half strength. Reduce feeding in autumn and stop in winter.

Pruning and Maintenance

Remove old or yellowing leaves at the base to maintain appearance. Being a slow grower, it doesn’t require heavy pruning, but trimming damaged foliage keeps it tidy.

Growth and Maturity

A slow to moderate grower. Over time, Philodendron ‘Ring of Fire’ forms a robust clump with large, serrated leaves up to 45–60 cm long. Its colourful foliage becomes more dramatic as the plant matures.

Common Issues

  • Loss of variegation: Insufficient light.

  • Yellow leaves: Often due to overwatering or poor drainage.

  • Brown edges: Typically linked to low humidity.

  • Pests: Occasionally affected by spider mites, thrips, or mealybugs. Inspect leaves regularly.

Background and Benefits

Rare and highly collectable, Philodendron ‘Ring of Fire’ is admired for its kaleidoscope of colours and flame-like leaf form. Each plant is unique, with leaves displaying an unpredictable blend of red, orange, cream, and green. It is a statement philodendron that combines sculptural beauty with vibrant colour, making it one of the most desirable foliage plants in cultivation.

Interactive Dog Toy
Color: Orange
My 100 lb shephard/golden mix likes this toy but she tends to get agitated with it. I have to keep an eye on her because she destroys toys in record time. The only complaint I really have is once she gets interested and plays for a long time it needs to be charged and she doesn't want me to take it to be charged. Wish the charge lasted a little longer or there were two of the inner parts so one could charge while she is playing with the second one. The plastic ball could be made of rubber so the teeth marks don't show up.

Colorful, Sturdy & Great Value
Color: Large Set of 4
Purchased for our two puppies when they were 2 months old and weighed about 14 pounds so theses balls were a little big for them to hold in their mouths but that didn't stop them from trying. While they did like these balls they much preferred softer soccer balls, the later of which did not hold up well at all. I had hoped they would play with these balls more when they were older but that hasn't happened 5 months later. I guess it's no fun if you can't tear the toy apart. Colors are very bright and they do enjoy chasing after them as long as I am the one rolling them across the room for them. Maybe when they progress to batting things with their paws they will start to do this for themselves.

3.5, Not 3.0
Color: Medium Set of 6
These balls were almost exactly what I needed. I was replacing my boy’s favorite ball, which is the 3” squeaky, spikey ball that fits in the chuck it launcher. Unfortunately I saw the shiny object next to it and because there were SIX balls and a dollar less, I failed to see that these are 3.5” balls instead of 3”…. Great balls but no fitty in the slingy. Buyer beware. No chuck it no problem. Save a buck.
